How child sponsorship works
Child sponsorship is a regular gift, usually monthly, that funds a charity's work with children in poorer communities. Many programs pool sponsors' money so it helps a child's whole community, through things like schools, clean water and health care, rather than handing cash to one family.
Some charities match you with a named child and send updates. Others fund orphan care, supporting children who have lost one or both parents. Both run on the same idea: steady money a charity can plan around. For other ways to give, see our guide to donating to charity in Australia.
A monthly gift through Tap4Change goes to the charity's work. If you'd like to be matched with a specific child, sign up directly with the charity's own sponsorship program. Giving through a Muslim charity? Our guide to donating to a Muslim charity covers groups that run orphan care.
