What Indigenous support services do

Indigenous support services cover a wide range of everyday needs: finishing school, finding work, managing money, staying healthy and having a safe place to live. Many work in remote communities, where services can be hard to reach.

When you choose a charity, look at how it works with Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people and communities. Each Tap4Change profile shows a charity's programs and where it works, so you can see who it partners with and how.

Australia has around 60,000 charities, and a handful get most of the donations. Smaller groups like the ones below often rely on regular supporters to keep going. For charities focused on schooling, see our guide to donating to an education charity.

  • Health and wellbeingSupport for families living with illness or disability.
  • Learning and workLiteracy, schooling, mentoring and help starting a business.
  • Money and housingFinancial counselling and pathways into safe, stable homes.

Want a different charity? Search all 60,000+ charities. How we picked these six: from Tap4Change's charity data, we took charities whose main work supports Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people, rated 2 or 3 stars with a complete profile, with annual donations under $1 million, and ranked them by their most recent annual donations. Research, heritage, advocacy-only and religious groups were left out.

A thank you perk from brands that do good

Some donations come with a thank you perk from a partner brand, like a voucher or a free product. It's a small thanks for showing up, never the reason to give. Offers change often, so check what's on when you donate.

Where Indigenous support services make a difference

Support looks different in every community. Here's what the charities above fund, so you can back the work that matters to you.

What your donation actually pays for

Your donation pays for counsellors, mentors, trainers and support workers, plus travel to remote communities and the equipment families need. Regular gifts help smaller charities plan programs ahead instead of chasing short-term funding.

Programs listed come from each charity's details in Tap4Change's charity data. For how fees, ACNC registration and tax receipts work, see the Tap4Change FAQs, the ACNC Charity Register and the ATO's gifts and donations guide.

Indigenous support questions, answered

How do I choose an Indigenous charity to support?

Look at what the charity does, where it works and how it partners with Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander communities. Each Tap4Change profile shows the charity's programs, updates and whether it's a deductible gift recipient.

Every charity on Tap4Change is registered with the ACNC, the national charity regulator.

Why back a smaller Indigenous support service?

Australia has around 60,000 charities, and a handful get most of the donations. Smaller groups often work in one region or with a few communities, so donations help keep local programs running.

A monthly gift gives them steady funding they can plan around, and you can change or cancel it any time.

Are donations to Indigenous support services tax deductible?

Yes, if the charity you choose is eligible. Tax deductibility is shown at the top of each charity's page on Tap4Change. Donations to a charity endorsed as a Deductible Gift Recipient (DGR), and covered by Item 1 of the table in section 30-15 of the Income Tax Assessment Act 1997, are tax deductible.

All six charities on this page are marked as tax deductible in our charity data. You can download your receipt from your profile to claim it at tax time.

Can my donation reach remote communities?

Yes. Several charities on this page work in remote areas, including Money Mob Talkabout, Enterprise Learning Projects and the MJD Foundation in the Northern Territory.

Money is the most useful gift here. It lets charities cover travel and local costs instead of shipping goods long distances.

What is a thank you perk, and does it change my donation?

A thank you perk is a small gesture from a brand that partners with Tap4Change, such as a voucher or a free product, offered with some donations. Your donation still goes 100% to the charity. The perk comes from the brand, and offers rotate, so what's available depends on when you give.

If you can't donate right now, reach out to the Tap4Change team at support@tap4change.org. Sharing a charity's page is a great way to help too.
